Proper Fabric selection
- Nylon Flags – Usually the best buy from an economic standpoint. It offers the highest lightweight durability and beauty.
- Polyester Flags – Usually more expensive because its heavier and more durable than Nylon. This flag is a good choice for high-wind and higher elevation areas.
- Lightweight Flags - When flags are used for only 2-3 days a year, extremely lightweight materials are the economical choice. Most retailers offer these at a nominal price or find them at your local Grocery market or Hardware store.
Proper Flag Size
Flag size is based upon the height of the flagpole, the location of the pole and the number of flags flown on that pole
The length of your flag should be at least 1/4 the height of your flagpole. For example, a 40' flagpole requires a 6' x10' flag or larger. This guideline applies to flagpoles 20' and larger. Most residential flags are 3' x 5' or 4' x 6'..
- Freestanding Flagpoles – A good rule of thumb is that the length of a standard-size flag should be 1/4 the height of the flagpole. Below is a chart to help you determine the correct relationship of the flag size to its flagpole height.
